Boat Sales

Buying a boat can be a tricky affair. Do you buy a new boat or check out the used boat for sale advertisements? There is always a boat for sale and second hand boat sales are the most popular amongst first time boat buyers looking to get on the water for a spot of fishing for a minimum outlay.

As with buying a car, the more you intend on spending the better quality boat you will be buying whether that be a sail boat or a dinghy.

There are more than a few things to consider when buying a boat. The most important is to determine what type of boating you will be doing. Where will you be boating, on the open seas or on a river? If you’re buying a boat then you need to buy a boat to suit your needs. Certainly no need to be buying a 90-foot yacht if you intend to go fishing for yabbies on the river.

Secondly, you need to decide how much money you intend to spend on your boat. Is it going to be your first boat, are you upgrading your boat? You may even consider the need for a boat loan to buy the boat you need.

Finding a boat for sale is the easy part whether that be online, in your local newspaper, in the second hand boat sales classifieds section of any one of the big Australian newspapers or you may simply see one on the front lawn of a neighbours home with a boat for sale sign on it.

Now that you have determined your boating needs and the amount of money you intend to spend on buying a new boat it’s time to decide the advantages of buying a new boat or checking the used second hand boat sales.

A new boat will come with a warranty but the value of the boat has dropped the moment it goes out the showroom. You can compare new boats at boatshows alongside other boats of similar ilk. Finding a boatdealer and investigating boating prices at the end of the financial year or when one model is superseded by new boat is one way to save money on the purchase price of a boat.

Whether you intend to purchase a new boat or check the second hand boat sales, you should try to get a test drive in it. You don’t buy a car without taking it for a spin first do you?

That covers the easy bit when buying a new or second hand boat. Two important things left to do when buying a boat. They include having the engine checked and going over the boat itself.

Some helpful tips include, if the boat is on the water then make sure you conduct an out of water inspection to check for cracks. Be sure to check the fuel tanks and lines, can you smell petrol, is there a leak?

What state is the cabin in, is the upholstery in good condition, has it been looked after? You may think you have found a bargain in the used boat sales section of you local rag, nothing a coat of paint won’t fix? That generally isn’t the case, if the boat hasn’t been looked after then there is a fair chance the engine is on its last legs too.
